What’s Inner Healing?
Inner Healing occurs through prayer as the Holy Spirit guides an individual to the source, or root, of their issue. In that place, they can
discover patterns of thinking that perhaps served them at one time, but no longer do now,
discover vows or promises they have made that hold them back,
learn to replace false assumptions and lies with the truth,
receive God’s comfort,
give past burdens to Him, and
extend forgiveness.
How is Biblical Counseling Different from Traditional Counseling?
In Biblical counseling, the basis of truth is from the Bible. In traditional counseling, the source of wisdom comes from the study of psychology and research. Both have value.
Some Christian counselors will overlay the two fields of study to inform their approach in helping people. All Licensed Counselors are very careful to avoid advice-giving and sharing spiritual values. Their code of conduct prohibits this. It’s important for them to remain neutral to respect the autonomy and spiritual perspectives of their clients.
Biblical counselors are free to discuss biblical values and offer their clients wisdom from scripture to consider when making decisions. For Christians who appreciate prayer and scriptural input, Biblical counseling adds a deep layer of spiritual support they enjoy.
Biblical counseling is not regulated in terms of licensing or accreditation. There is not one primary agency that provides studies and tests to pass in this field. There are many different programs and routes to prepare people for this ministry. They all have their own programs and certificates.
This is just a brief summary of two frames of reference, among many approaches, to help people process and heal. I hope that kindness and mutual appreciation will prevail and that working for the common good will remain our focus.
My Story
After many years of volunteering and leading various women’s groups and bible studies at my church, I was invited to lead Women’s Ministry. During that time, I went through Foursquare’s formal training and testing and became a Pastor. I also received biblical training in college-level classes called Ministry Institute. My love for God, and the women I served, grew and grew, but life as I knew it was about to fall apart. It crashed with the implosion of my marriage followed by two different cancers. I entered into counseling, completely broken, and desperate for healing. After much-needed rest, repair, and years of counseling, I decided that I wanted to help people too. I studied through the same training as my counselor, The Elijah House School of Prayer Ministry, and started my business, Hope’ Rising in 2017. My transformation and the lessons gained are not mine to keep. I have hope and faith for anyone going through disastrous circumstances that God will comfort and heal. I believe in second chances, forgiveness, and new life because I have experienced the power of God. I consider it a privilege that I get to be a messenger of hope.
